How It Works

What to expect when enquiring about a project

How much will it cost?

That’s the first question any business owner usually has. However there is no simple answer to this question. As someone at the beginning of their freelance career, I am aiming to be competitive. However, as a member of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders I need to not only adhere to their policies and Code of Practice, but also be guided by their recommended rate tables.

  1. I will need to see a content sample, as well as understand the publication medium and timescale. Once you have decided which service you are looking for I can then give you an estimate of cost.
  2. If you agree to the cost and timescale offered, you will receive an invoice for 50% of the estimate, as well as a contract of service to be signed and returned with the full text to be reviewed. At this stage we will also agree how many reviews are included in the price.
  3. Once I receive the first payment and full text you have secured those dates in my diary. Depending on the type of project I may send you further questions on linguistic preferences.
  4. I will then meticulously work through your document using the Tracked Changes and Comments features of Word. Your document will be returned to you by the agreed deadline with an invoice for the remainder payment.
  5. There may be a number of open questions, which should be evident from the comments section of the Word document. When you have answered these I will make a final adjustment to the document (or further reviews if so agreed in the original contract) and return it to you.
